Lifestyle & its effect on Digestion by Dr Krishna Tripuraneni

With the increase in urbanisation over the past century, we have a number of problems, which have slowly started raising their heads. Digestive tract problems are one way the urban lifestyle has reflected on our health. Dr. Krishna Tripuraneni, MD, MBA, who is a specialist of the digestive tract practicing in Wellington, throws light on how the lifestyle changes have affected digestion over years.

A variety of factors have been associated with digestive tract problems. These are :

1.   What we eat?

With the increasing urbanisation, came a lack of time. Also, migration led people to living away from their families. People started relying on ready food rather than cooking for themselves. This necessity invented the fast-food culture. 

Dr. Krishna Tripuraneni notes that good eating habits can go long way in improving digestive health. He advises against junk food & insists on healthy home cooked food.

2.   When we eat?

The lack of time did not even spare any of it for eating. People in cities are known to delay meals by atleast 2 hours. Many, even skip meals, at times. Eating food at the right time is very important for good digestion.

3.  How healthy are we physically?

Another aspect of the fast-food culture is obesity. Obesity has taken a toll of our life in a number of ways. One of them is due to its effect on the digestive system. A regular exercise is a key factor in improving our overall health, which would include digestive health. Dr. Tripuraneni advises that we should have a good exercise for at least 45 minutes every day.

4.  How healthy are we mentally?

Stress is also a frequent companion of the cities. Managing stress & giving a relaxing time to one's soul can help a great deal to curb a number of digestive tract problems.  Dr. Tripuraneni advocates meditation & yoga for a relieved mind.

5.  What else troubles us?

We have long kneeled down to habits like smoking & drinking alcohol. Abstaining from these can be very helpful for a good digestive function.

How we live has a huge impact on how healthy we are. Dr. Krishna Tripuraneni adds that if we keep neglecting our body, our body will keep neglecting us!
